Launched under the umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives, the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign aims to mobilize local and regional support for the launch of a AED1 billion food endowment fund that will help implement sustainable programs to fight and eradicate hunger within a sustainable institutional framework.
The campaign also aims to provide individuals, businesses, businessmen and influential philanthropists with new ways to donate and make a difference, further promoting a culture of endowment as a traditionally rooted tool of development, and an investment for the future.

Institutions, businesses, businessmen and individuals across all segments of the society are invited to contribute to the campaign, which accepts donations of as little as AED 1. This allows a wider participation in this sustainable act of generosity, further boosting its positive impact in underprivileged communities around the world.

The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign starts on the first day of Ramadan 2023, and runs until it achieves the value of the endowment fund at AED 1 billion.

Since the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign is dedicated to launching a food endowment campaign that serves dozens of countries, the campaign accepts cash contributions only.

A Sharia committee will be created and tasked with overseeing the sustainable and growing endowment fund, and will give Sharia-compliant advice in relevant matters. This move follows directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Endowment is a great way to do good and make a difference. It is also one of the best types of charity, as it keeps on giving as long as the endowment is maintained by investment and operations.

A committee will be created for the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign in order to launch the AED1 billion food endowment fund, overseeing and investing the capital in a way that achieves the highest return on investment. The committee will achieve this by focusing on feasible sectors in line with economic growth through a Sharia-compliant contemporary Islamic approach.
This committee will create processes and formulate regulations in accordance with international best practices, opening the door for the contribution of individuals, institutions, businesses, businessmen and influential philanthropists in order to enhance the impact of the endowment fund and reach more disadvantaged groups.
The committee will work closely with relevant authorities to ensure sound auditing of the fund’s operations, and consequently, a sustainable charity. It will be responsible for annually channeling proceeds of the endowment fund towards the establishment of sustainable food provision sites.
